William “Bigfoot” Wallace

William Alexander Anderson “Bigfoot” Wallace joined the Texas Rangers under John Coffee Hays and was with the rangers during the Mexican War. In the 1850’s Captain Wallace commanded a ranger company of his own. He was the most famous frontiersman in the history of the Lone Star State and a Texas Revolution hero. Wallace died on January 7, 1899, and shortly thereafter the Texas legislature appropriated money for moving his body to the State Cemetery.
