Samuel Colt

1999

Samuel Colt

Colt was a native of Hartford, Connecticut. In 1835 he received his first patent on a gun featuring a cartridge cylinder that rotated by cocking the hammer in a chamber with six cartridges. The Colt revolver, “the gun that won the West”, was a particular favorite of the Texas Rangers. The Colt revolver remained preeminent among such arms in Texas and throughout the West for the remainder of the nineteenth century.
