Johnny Gimble

Johnny Gimble

One of the most impressive fiddle players in country music history, Johnny Gimble confounded most of his rivals by using a five-string fiddle. In the early thirties he formed the Rose City Swingsters with brothers Gene and Jerry. He gained most of his early success with Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys in the late forties; he later organized his own group, which played as house band for Will’s Club in Dallas. During the sixties Johnny recorded with Wills to play fiddle and electric mandolin and went on to record his many solo albums in the early seventies.
