Jesse Chisholm

1999

Jesse Chisholm

Half Cherokee, half Scottish and husband to a Creek Indian, this Tennessee native served primarily as a guide for cattle drives. He is credited with utilizing safe river crossings and good grass to develop much of the Chisholm Trail. His vast understanding of the Native American nations lead to his success as a guide. He worked primarily in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, but he never traveled the entire route of the trail bearing his name.
