George W. Saunders
1998
George Washington Saunders was already driving cattle up the trails to market when he was only 17. He later became a cattle trader. In 1910, the George W. Saunders Livestock-Commission Company had offices in Fort Worth, San Antonio, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Saunders was a major force in the publication of “Trail Drivers of Texas,” a historic reference book detailing the trials and tribulations of cowboys on the trial. The Sounders family’s long devotion to the livestock industry and the Fort Wroth Stockyards is honored with a historical marker in Fort Worth’s Saunders Park.
